Here is a really interesting post on the blog ‘National Trust Going Green’ that I thought I’d share.
We have a ‘Green Group’ here at Charlecote, challenged with the vision to reduce our energy use and ensure that the future of the property is of sustainable energy use. Our places are forever, for every one, so we need to be responsible in how we look after them.
At the moment, we’re still learning things by trial and error at the property but we do monitor our meter reads and daily usage with our energy monitor. I’ve moved our portable energy monitor to our office corridor so it is near the door all of our staff and volunteers use. The idea is for everyone to know roughly how much energy we use so they can spot whether we have shot up (or down!) on the monitor. This should draw our attention to things that may have been left switched on that shouldn’t be and make it easier to do something about it! A small step forward perhaps?
