Easter at Charlecote

Its that time of year again – time for the cracking egg-puns and melted chocolate fingerprints to appear.
Yes, its Easter time and at the National Trust that means lots of Easter Egg hunts are being planned! We are no egg-ception here at Charlecote (sorry!). Our trails, sponsored by Cadbury, start on Good Friday and will run through to Easter Monday.

Visitors can join in the Easter fun on the paddock where our events marquee will be located. It is here that you can collect a trail and then undertake a hunt around the garden, collecting clues before being presented with a delicious chocolate treat at the end! There is a charge of £2 per trail and all of the other activities and games will be free to join in with. The Easter trail will be available on all 4 days from 11am, ending at 4pm.

Once you’ve eaten your Cadbury’s chocolate egg, there are some activities that will help burn off those calories too! We’ve got Spots Vs Stripe games on the grass on Friday and Saturday. Get in the mood for the forthcoming Olympics with these fun games including giant tidily winks, sack races and snakes and ladders!

We’ll have some egg-sta special helpers here on the Easter Sunday and Monday. Cadbury are sending some of their staff to us to do some face painting and leading more fun games. You can have a go at ‘nest’ ball (netball but with eggs!), frisbee games, egg and spoon races and lots more! We’re getting egg-cited already!

To join in with the Easter events above you need only get a grounds ticket from our reception team when you arrive (if you’re a National Trust member you’ll get in free).

Want to have a look round the house whilst you are here at Easter*? We’d love it if you did! Our Room Guides are happiest when they’ve visitors to chat to, so do pop in to see our beautiful house. You may see more than you egg-spect too. Around the house this Easter holiday time, we’ve some egg-stra guests… Our cuddly critters have come out to play! There are a number of little chicks that are hiding around the house. Will you find them all?
*This is free of charge but you do need to have a house ticket or be an NT member to go in the house. Also the house is closed on Wednesday!

A volunteer guide shows visitors the Heronry

For anyone who might enjoy be looking to find out more about the wildlife here at Charlecote, we’ve got some Heronry visits running through the half term holidays. Why not find out more about the Heronry in our previous blog post? The dates of the visits will be… 4th, 5th, 11th, 12th and 13th April at 1.30pm. There is no charge for these walks. Just meet our volunteers at the bridge over to West Park at 1.30 and they’ll be happy to show you. We have one of the largest Heronry’s in Warwickshire so its worth seeing!

And finally, we’ll be opening our house for an egg-stra day too. During the Warwickshire school holidays we open the house every day (apart from Wednesdays as that’s when our House Elves are busy at work making the house gleem!)

Phew! There is lots going on, we’re going to be busy… chocolate egg anyone?!
