Spring in the garden!

Today it definitely feels like its spring time in the garden!
The sun is shining and there are bursts of colour popping up every where as the spring bulbs have suddenly started to flower.

It is the beginning of the season for us and we have been busy out working in the park and garden getting everything ready.  We have now finished the first phase of the woodland garden restoration, the new paths are in and the irrigation system has been upgraded. Hundreds of new plants have been ordered and will hopefully be arriving over the next month – we also get to have some nice trips out to the local nurseries which Paul, our gardener, particularly enjoys!

Work has also started on the orchard restoration

On Tuesday we planted three apple trees and put up our first lovely new tree guards. Brian, one of our park volunteers planted the first tree.

Shirley our WRAGS (Women Returners to Amenity Gardening Scheme placement) joined us for some training and planted the second tree.

And for our last job of the day we all had to try out the new garden benches. Sometimes it really is hard work being a gardener!
